I've cheated on my spouse! Doctor please help me! Check me into rehab!
Tiger went to rehab. Jesse James is in rehab. Even Charlie Sheen is in rehab. Seriously, people. Do you really think the problem lies in an addiction to sex? Whatever happened to good old-fashioned values? Whatever happened to "til death do us part"? Whatever happened to "I'm sorry but I'm married"?
Addicted to sex? Whatever. All human beings are addicted to sex. It is ingrained in us to ensure survival of our species. Do these men really think they are enjoying something more than the rest of our species?
Perhaps there is more to the rehab than just curing an addiction to sex. Perhaps they help their patients with basic morals and values. Hopefully they find out what these people are missing in their lives that propels them to self-destruct.
When they find out what's missing, I hope they share it with the rest of the species. This addiction is spreading.

I completely agree with you Candace. These men have no respect for their families. They want their cake and eat it too.
ReplyDeleteI think the rehab thing is just some sort of attempt to clean up their image for the media. I don't think these guys have any kind of addiction, at least no more than any other male.
ReplyDeleteCandace, you have done a great job this semester in getting us all to look at adultery and cheating from many different angles. Great job! Maybe some how these celebrities, and people in general, will develop better morals and values and respect their significant others more.
Thanks,
Sarah
I think their problem is "selfishness". They are fulfilling themselves at the cost of hurting the ones they love. Before you do something you think of the consequences, unless all you care about is yourself. In my opinion that is what it stems from, purely satisfying their own needs and not thinking of others.
ReplyDeleteThe problem may very well lie in an addition to something, but it isn't sex. The addiction they have is with themselves. You are exactly correct in that these people had spouses to turn to when they needed to have sex. They DID NOT and SHOULD NOT have gone outside the marriage looking for it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do hope that the Rehab is sharing morals and values with these individuals. I am a firm believer of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". They should stop and ask themselves would they be okay with their spouse cheating on them behind their back?
I hate it when guys use this as an excuse and then expect us to go along with it. What goes around comes around.
ReplyDeleteAs a man, I don't feel like we should have any special exclusions with regards to infedelity. It is a natural instinct to procreate, but I think disrespecting someone you care about and who trusts you is pretty low. It's unfortunate that it happens so often, but don't forget that women are often guilty of it as well.
